$1.2bn Armed probe: Nobody Can Prosecute Me For The N100million We Collected – Olu Falae

image

Former presidential candidate of the defunct All Peoples Party (APP) Chief Olu Falae, who was allegedly accused of receiving N100m from the $2.1 billion arms money from the former National Security Adviser (NSA), Colonel Sambo Dasuki, in an interview said:

“I want to say with all emphasis that I never took even one naira from Dasuki. Beyond that, I want to assert that I never had any relationship with Dasuki. I knew Dasuki way back in 1986-87,when he was ADC to General Babagida and I was Secretary to the Federal Government. Since he left that government around 1987, I had no contact or dealing with him; absolutely none”.

“The N100 million they are bandying about in the media, the one that I know about, it happened as follows: Chief Tony Anenih, a former Chairman of the Board of Trustees of the PDP, phoned me late January last year and said he would like to see me; he would like to come from Abuja to see me in Akure. And he came.

He came with someone, and I, too, invited somebody to be with me. The four of us were together in the meeting; and Chief Anenih said they were observing that my party, SDP, had no presidential candidate and, therefore, they would want us to ask our supporters to vote for his own party’s candidate, President Goodluck Jonathan”.

“I told him that, in principle, there was nothing wrong with the two parties collaborating, but that the collaboration must be a principled collaboration: it must be based on principles. I told him that there were certain things we desired the government to do but they had not done for the people, and that if we were going to support their candidate, they must commit themselves to make changes in those areas. He asked for the areas? I said number one, their party must be prepared to restructure Nigeria from the colossal unity system, and the best way of doing that was to fully implement the report of the National Conference 2014”.

“Number two, that the party must commit itself to a policy of zero tolerance for corruption because I saw that corruption was monumental in what they were doing. Number three, I said the party in government must destroy Boko Haram and give stability to Nigeria. Number four, there was mass unemployment and youths were getting frustrated, that they must articulate programmes to create jobs for the unemployed. Number five, that I observed that the party in government was spending virtually our entire revenue on recurrent expenditure, that they must reduce recurrent expenditure so as to generate surpluses to finance capital development like roads, schools, hospitals, etc”.

“Item number six, that if we accepted this tide and accepted them, then if the party won the election, we will expect reasonable participation in that government. And he said they were totally happy with all these strict conditions, that the conditions were acceptable to them; in fact, he said they were already implementing some of them. So, on that note, he returned to Abuja. But after he left, I decided to write to him in order to document this relationship.
The letter I wrote to him, again I listed the six conditions which I had mentioned in our oral discussion. And three days later, he wrote back to me saying that he had consulted all the stakeholders of his party including the President and they were all happy to accept those conditions to work with the SDP in the election’s that were forthcoming”.

“So, having accepted our conditions, I proceeded to Abuja to summon the meeting of my party executive and decision making organs and made the presentation to them. There was a very robust debate and, at the end of the debate, the executive committee of my party endorsed their request that we should work with Jonathan in the elections”.

Problem!!! Nigerians Will Start Paying More Tax…

image

Against the backdrop of the economic crisis plaguing Nigeria amid falling global oil prices, the Government is considering changes to the nation’s tax regime in a bid to shore up dwindling revenue.

There are indications that the government will increase Value Added Tax, as suggested by the International Monetary Fund, whose Managing Director, Christine Lagarde, visited the country weeks back.

But financial experts are insisting that the move to increase VAT would put further pressure on Nigerians, as it would cause increase in the prices of goods and services, among other implications.

VAT is a consumption tax on the goods and service consumed by any person, whether government agencies, business organisations or individuals. It is currently levied at the rate of 5% in the country.

The sharp drop in crude oil revenues, which provide 95 per cent of the country’s foreign earnings, has led to significant depletion of the nation’s foreign reserves.

Oil prices have fallen in the last few days to their lowest levels since 2003, trading about $10 lower than the oil price benchmark of $38 proposed by President Muhammadu Buhari for this year’s budget. Oil prices staged a rebound on Friday, trading around $32 per barrel on Saturday.

The Minister of Finance, Mrs. Kemi Adeosun, has said the Federal Government plans to borrow up to $5bn from multiple sources, including the Eurobond market, to plug its budget deficit.

Buhari had in December presented a total budget size of N6.08tn, with a deficit of N2.22tn to be financed by both domestic and foreign borrowings of N1.84tn.

He put the revenue projection for the year at N3.86tn, adding that over the medium-term, the government expected to increase revenues and reduce overheads, to bring the fiscal deficit down to 1.3 per cent of Gross Domestic Product by 2018.

Vice President Yemi Osinbajo, who said changes to taxation were being considered, told CNBC in a television interview, “We are looking at increasing our tax coverage.

He added, “VAT, for instance — we have been doing just about 20 per cent coverage. We think that just by increasing coverage, we could do much more, and so we could earn more in terms of local resources,” he said.

Increasing VAT from 5 per cent, among the world’s lowest VAT rates, and broadening the tax base were among suggestions put forward by the IMF boss during her visit.

During her visit, Lagarde also said the IMF did not support foreign exchange restrictions.

The Central Bank of Nigeria, whose monetary policy committee will meet on Monday and Tuesday, imposed forex restrictions last year aimed at conserving foreign exchange reserves and there have been calls from investors for these to be eased.

“We know that the central bank will just have to do the right thing at this time. The central bank has told us, and it was announced even in the president’s budget speech, that they intend to take a flexible approach and deploy whatever tools are necessary to ensure that we stay competitive,” Osinbajo had said.

A Professor of Financial Economics at the University of Uyo, Akwa Ibom State, Leo Ukpong, described the move to increase taxes as ill-timed, saying any increase in VAT would lead to declines in consumption and investment in the country.

He said, “It is not that it is bad to increase taxes; what is bad is increasing it at the wrong time. When the economy is going through recession; when we are not producing; when unemployment is high, that is not the time to raise any tax. In fact, the opposite is the case: it is a time you cut taxes so that you can stimulate consumption and investment.

“Increase in VAT is going to destroy the economy more. Consumption of goods and services will drop because you’re taking money away from people, and investment will drop. Overall, it is going to have negative effects on the economy, households and businesses.”

But Professor Sheriffdeen Tella of the Department of Economics, Olabisi Onabanjo University, said there should be increase in taxes to capture more people and organisations.

He said, “There are a lot of people and organisations that are not paying tax, particularly in the informal sector. The government has to work out a way to capture the informal sector taxes.

“It is not as if they want to impose taxes generally. Let us look at VAT, for example; there are some assets that can be regarded as luxury items. They can increase the tax regime on those assets. People hardly pay tax on wealth in this country. They need to capture those people (the wealthy).”

image

The Chairman of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC), Ibrahim Magu, has said that the funds looted from Nigeria in the last five years is enough to fund three years budget of the country.

He stated this yesterday during an informal meeting with Nobel laureate Wole Soyinka in Ikeja, Lagos State.

Magu used the occasion of the meeting to discuss his plans for a renewed clampdown on corrupt officials in Nigeria.

Earlier at the meeting, Mr. Soyinka bantered with the EFCC chairman, at one point wishing him “good luck, but not that other one.”

Mr. Magu was accompanied by some of his aides.

The Nobel laureate expressed his unfettered support to Mr. Magu, urging him to do all the right things necessary to arrest the culture of impunity and corruption in the country.

Mr. Soyinka remarked about the probe of procurement contracts for the military and the arrest of former National Security Adviser, Sambo Dasuki.

He also made reference to former Petroleum Minister, Diezani Alison-Madueke, who is currently in the UK undergoing treatment for cancer, stating that her health had been used to milk public sympathy.

Read according to the victim below:-

So I was coming back from Wuse, precisely Golden Gate Hotel, close to Wuse Market and decided to pick a taxi adjacent Zenith bank.

And this particular Taxi drove up to me with a driver and two passengers in it (male and female), the driver stopped where I was standing and asked where i was going to and I said Mpape, He asked the other ladies waiting and they said Katampe junction, the driver said since we were all going towards the same direction He would take us straight there.

we got in, he drove up to about Nicon Junction ,the lady who was inside before me decided to drop and after she did, the driver now asked the other guy who was also in the taxi before me if he had any load and the guy said yes, the driver started snarling at d guy, asking why the guy told him the first time that he had no load and d guy said he told him. the driver now asked the guy what was his load and the guy said just shoes and a carton of clothes.

To our surprize, the driving told the guy that what was in the carton wasnt clothes and the passenger repeated that it was his clothes and the driver said, “okay, since its clothes inside the carton, i will drive you to the police station, and all of a sudden the guy started begging d driver, we were all shocked, the driver now asked him where he got all d money in the carton and the guy said he worked for his Boss and he refused to pay him that is why he took d carton of money “which he said was in dollars” from the boss.

the driver now said He will drive the vehicle to the police and d guy started pleading again and offered that he will share the money 50/50 with the driver. the driver said no, that he would rather share it with all d passenges and the guy agreed, they now agreed on where they’ll take the money to be shared, the rest of the passengers as well as myself were all quiet through out the arguement.they both agreed that we all should take it to a particular place and share,” i have never heard of the place before”.

I had a very terrible feeling about the whole arguement and decided to drop so i told the driver that i did not want to be a part of the sharing and he started abusing me, saying all sorts of things that I dont have the mind to live in Abuja which happens to be a place for the tough “as he put it”. so i dropped and took another taxi to my location leaving them to share their money alone.

Just few hours later, news broke out that corpses of two young ladies were discovered at a particular location with their private parts and some organs missing. from the description given,it all went down to the very people i was with in the Taxi.

Please, Residents of Abuja and Nigeria, this seems to be the new trend ritualists deceive desperate Nigerians to their death, please beware of this and relay the information to the people around you.

Pastor In Trouble After Car Dealer Used Stolen Car To Sow Seed

image

The Presbyterian Reverend of Ameke-Abam in Arochukwu, Titus Onwuchekwa who collected a stolen car used in sowing seed is singing in police cell after he was paraded alongside five suspects for armed robbery at the Lagos State Police Command, Ikeja.

The shocked pastor revealed that a car dealer used the stolen car to sow a seed into his life and that he had no knowledge that the car was stolen.

According to Rev. Titus Onwuchekwa, “I am a clergy man. I bought an SUV from one Felix when he came for a programme in Lagos sometime in November. I actually saw the vehicle at Alaba, where it was advertised for sale. While negotiating with the owner of the vehicle, I told him that I was a man of God and he said that he would use the vehicle to sow a seed into my life. He said because I was a man of God, he would sell the vehicle, a Mitsubishi Pajero jeep to me for N500,000. I paid him N350,000, and I later balanced him N150,000. He said I should pray that God should bless him with more children because he had only had one child since he married.

“I never knew the car was stolen. I don’t know anything about the other Infiniti jeep that he sold. He gave me the car documents which bore his name; he also gave me the custom clearing documents, and they had the same name too. A soldier friend of mine had to help me verify if the car was genuine and he confirmed that it was. I am a man of God and I will never buy a stolen property.”

The other suspects who were paraded alongside Rev Titus included Opeyemi Aregbesola, 28; Bola Salami, 30; Osas Felix Bright, 32; Chibike Umeh, 22; and Ndibe Samuel, 31.

According to Vanguard, It was learnt that upon the arrest of two notorious armed robbery kingpins, Opeyemi Aregbesola and Bola Salami who had been on the wanted list of Special Anti-Robbery Squad for snatching exotic vehicles, the operatives recovered a Toyota Camry 2007 model with registration number MUS782DD.

While parading the suspects, Lagos State Commissioner of Police, CP Fatai Owoseni, said that, “During interrogation, the duo confessed to have stolen a series of cars at gunpoint. Their confession led to the arrest of one Osas Felix Bright and Chibuike Umeh at their hideout at Oko Igbede, Alaba International Market. The two suspects also confessed to have received many stolen vehicles from the gang and sold them at give-away prices to their customers at Onitsha, Anambra State and Abia State.”

Also the police recovered six vehicles including one unregistered Toyota 4 Runner jeep, two Toyota Camry cars with registration number AAA391AA, and FKJ441DV, two Lexus jeeps with registration numbers HAL100RF and LSR520DA, a Toyota Highlander with registration number LSR492DX, and a Mitsubishi Pajero jeep with registration number SMK484DS.

It was gathered that Osa Felix Bright and Chibike Umeh specialised in receiving stolen cars from armed robbery gangs, changing the colour and re-registering the cars with forged custom duty documents before selling the vehicles.

Also, another suspect Ndibe Samuel, a medicine dealer, revealed how he bought one of the stolen cars from his in-law. He said: “I bought a Toyota Camry for N700,000 last September, 2015. I was in my shop when he actually called me to come and see him, that he had a message for me. I was arrested by the police on my way to see him. They said the vehicle that I bought was a stolen vehicle.”

For Osas Felix, one of the suspect said there was no need to deny: “I sell vehicles at Berger Yard. A friend brought the vehicle for to me to help him sell. I have known him for over a year. I knew it was a stolen vehicle. I bought the vehicle for N300,000 from him, registered it with my name and then sold it to the pastor.”

However, Opeyemi Aregbesola confessed that he has been stealing and selling cars for a long time now: “I usually sell stolen vehicles to Osas Felix. So far I have sold about seven vehicles to him.” he confessed.

Investigations are still ongoing and efforts are on to apprehend other fleeing members of the gang who specialise in forging documents for the gang. The suspects will soon be charged to court.
